Instrumentation: Soprano, flute (piccolo), Bb clarinet (bass clarinet), baritone saxophone, percussion (water tam-tam, snare drum, tom-toms, bombo, vibraphone), piano, cello, double bass Abstrações, “Abstractions,” was composed for ABSTRAI Ensemble of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2012. Structured in the text’s palindrome form, the work begins and ends rhythmically, becoming increasingly amorphous midway as it moves into a foggy Iona landscape full of longing, water sounds and vocal percussion.
